Infant massage classes are so much fun!
There is truly no substitute for learning to massage your baby alongside an IAIM Certified Infant Massage Instructor (CIMI). It is not only socially rewarding to learn the massage techniques with other parents, but the strokes are easier to grasp when demonstrated by an experienced instructor.
The correct pressure, the rhythm, rate, respect, the length of massage, eye-contact and bonding are just some of the skills and topics that will be discussed during the classes. Instructors will teach parents how to tune into their baby’s needs and how to read the baby’s body language to make sure that the massage experienced is loving and relaxing.
CIMI’s teach a little at a time to ensure that every parent joining a class will leave the session with confidence. CIMI’s are bound by IAIM policies and procedures to teach parents over a course of 5 weeks (1 session per week) to ensure that babies are not overstimulated and respected.
All instructors teach the same syllabus, although the structure and prices of classes can vary between instructors and areas. Most instructors will either offer a choice of infant massage classes in a supportive group environment or private tuition.
A typical IAIM course consists of 5 sessions (1hr to 1½ hr per session). Sessions are usually held at weekly intervals to not only allow the parent to learn all the strokes, but also allowing the baby to get used to the massage, prevent them from becomming overstimulated and teach parents to respect their babies cues.
